’Kolmas ovi’ is an art collective formed by artists who studied at the Helsinki Artists’ Association’s Basic art education for adults -program from 2018 to 2022.
About Nature 2025
The ’About Nature’ exhibition at Gallery Idea in Cable Factory Helsinki from 15 April to 4 May 2025 featured four members of the collective: Iina Lehto, Merja Pellikka, Saara Rajala and Ulla Soverila. Each artist approached the nature theme from their own starting points, in their own way.
Most of the works I brought to the exhibition were textile reliefs. They are based on my understanding of the environmental impacts of the textile industry. I created them by first exposing the synthetic fiber structure of the mixed fiber fabric with a strong acid treatment. Then I enhanced the sense on depth by layering.
In Their Own Ways 2023
The exhibition ’In Their Own Ways’ -exhibition at Cable Factory’s Käytävägalleria (Helsinki, Finland) in February 2023 featured six members of the collective: Sanna Alt, Iina Lehto, Merja Pellikka, Saara Rajala, Hanna-Kaisa Seppälä and Ulla Soverila.
The exhibition was a reunion: What had each of us done after graduation?
I myself had continued to get to know a technique I discovered at the end of my studies: watercolors on MDF panel. The color of the base and the interaction of wood fibers with water and pigments bring challenges and fascinating surprises to the painting process. The result can be delicate without being watered down.
