Quite Normal

‘Quite Normal’ is a societal stance on things that are considered normal, even though they probably shouldn’t be.

I’ve had the same conversation so many times. A conversation where we first discuss the problems related to a topic in good agreement. But when the conversation moves to a problem that the other person doesn’t consider important, the whole thing is dismissed by stating that that’s how it goes. That’s just the way it is. It’s quite normal.

Each of the works in my exhibition deals with a topic that not everyone sees as a problem, but that nevertheless affects us all – to a greater or lesser extent. Whether it’s the problems of election financing, restrictive gender concepts or the sexualization of children, normalizing the status quo is also a choice and just as political as questioning it.

The works in the exhibition are painted with watercolors on MDF. I have been working with this technique since 2021, exploring its limits and constantly learning more. In this exhibition I explored the more dynamic end of the technique. I aimed for a bolder use of color and let the behavior of the paint on the panel guide the direction in which I took the paintings.
